Step 1.
For everyday maintenance, clean your table using warm water, a splash of dish soap, and a paper towel.
For additional cleaners, we recommend Osmo Wash and Care.
When it comes to time to refresh your table with maintenance oil, simply wipe down your table top with warm water and allow the table top to dry completely before proceeding to step 2.
Step 2.
Apply the Osmo Maintenance Oil thinly with a soft, lint-free cloth and work into the wood, going with the grain. Allow product to sit for 5 minutes.
Note: there are a wide variety of Osmo maintenance products. Please use the product(s) specifically recommended to you by ShahWood Studio.
Step 3.
Buff out the maintenance oil using a clean microfiber cloth or towel. The table surface should feel dry to the touch. Remove any traces of excess oil and allow to dry for 3-4 hours.
Apply maintenance oil quarterly for best results. Maintenance oil restores the tables original finish, removes ring stains and increases the tables ability to repel water. A well maintained table will require refinishing approximately once every 5-8 years. This process is done by stripping the original finish, re-sanding and sealing the top on-site. Refinishing a table will restore the tops natural luster, remove dings and dents and will put new life into your piece of functional art. Please click below to schedule your onsite table refinishing.
ShahWood Studio products are made from natural materials. Although all slabs are kiln-dried, they will react to external factors. Tables will ding, dent and scratch with use. Tables will crack and fade over time due to environmental factors unless kept in temperature controlled environments. These are natural products and such movement, aging and natural weathering is not considered a “Defect.” These markings are deemed character and to be expected, as a fine quality leather product should expect to gain character over its lifetime. Regular care and maintenance will deter these effects and with that being said...
NOTE: a tables worst enemy (in no particular order) that will cause excessive cracking, fading, etc below.
The best way to preserve the natural beauty of your table and keep it looking brand new for 100+ years is PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE. Keep your home temperature controlled, keep your table indoors, away from HVAC vents, fire places, etc. and if you can’t, please use a humidifier to prevent your table from drying out and cracking. Think of your table (wood or stone) as a sponge. It will absorb heat, cold, moisture, etc. Movement = problems. Reduce the movement, remove the problem! Of course, if you have an issue or need a table refinished on site, don’t hesitate to reach out by clicking the link below.
